Jewish tradition teaches that the study of Torah is a mitzvah of unparalleled importance. Indeed, most parents do everything within their power to provide the best possible education for their children. At Beth David, it is considered an integral part of the mission of the congregation to provide opportunities for continuing education.

Beth David is proud of Rabbi Adler for many reasons: not the least of those is his ability as teacher and educator. Rabbi Adler is respected across the spectrum of the greater Hartford Jewish community for his pedagogical skills and talents.

Some classes take place at the synagogue, some daily and some weekly. Other study occurs away from the Beth David campus, in homes and centers around town. Adult education is offered on a variety of levels, from elementary Hebrew reading to advanced Talmud. Not every class is for everybody, but there is something for everyone.

Two of the most successful and well supported adult education projects include Beth David's acclaimed DIALOGUES series and the CHAVURAH BETH DAVID. DIALOGUES is an ongoing lecture series that brings to Beth David the finest and brightest minds in the Jewish community. Supported by private grants and donations, DIALOGUES has addressed the issues of Jewish continuity (Mark Powers, National Director of Jews for Judaism), the lost art of story-telling (Rabbi Paysach Krohn, author), bringing history to life (Rabbi Berel Wein, international scholar).

CHAVURAH BETH DAVID is a program of informational study groups which meets in homes of congregational families. Members of the congregation and the local community are invited to prepare, present and facilitate discussions of timely and relevant interest. Sometimes the program will feature a single speaker and other times it might feature a panel of speakers. If it is a topic that is even tangentially Jewish, it is a worthy topic for the Chavurah. Study, friendly discussion and refreshments, all in a comfortable and relaxed setting make CHAVURAH BETH DAVID one of the most enjoyable adult education opportunities in town.
